What Does Healing Look Like?
This question comes up often: What does healing look like? Many people hold the belief that healing is a linear process, that it follows a predictable path, or that it should look a certain way. But the truth is, healing is anything but predictable. It can be messy, chaotic, and deeply challenging, but it can also be gentle, subtle, and filled with moments of peace and clarity. It’s not always unicorns and rainbows, but it’s also not just struggle—it’s everything in between.
Healing can be as simple as saying no when you need to. It can be setting and maintaining your boundaries, even when it’s difficult. It can look like falling apart for a moment, only to rise stronger. Healing has many faces, and it is often a rollercoaster of emotions and insights.
Because each of us is on a unique journey, healing will look different for everyone. What may seem insignificant to one person might be a major breakthrough for another. Comparing our journey to someone else’s can create resistance, but that doesn’t mean we can’t learn from others. The key is to avoid self-judgment and trust our own process rather than forcing it to look like someone else’s.
Healing can be subtle or intense. It can be a small yet profound realization, or it can be a full-blown emotional release. However, it’s important to recognize that while healing can involve moments of emotional overwhelm, true healing is about moving forward with self-awareness and care, not getting stuck in cycles of pain.
Surrendering to the process doesn’t mean being passive—it means allowing the changes to unfold while also taking intentional steps toward well-being, whether that’s through therapy, self-care, movement, or creative expression.
What matters most is how we choose to move forward. Can we embrace the discomfort of the unknown? Can we allow ourselves to be present in the process rather than rushing to “fix” something? Healing is not about perfection; it’s about growth, awareness, and self-compassion.
Be patient with yourself. Be kind to yourself. Embrace the ups and downs, and trust that every step—no matter how small—is leading you toward greater healing and wholeness.
